The natural look of wood trim brings beauty to any home. There are many sizes and shapes of trim to choose from, it all depends on the look you are trying to achieve. Walking into a home with no wood trim and all one color looks bare.
The homes that were built 100 years ago had high ceilings and lots of wood work. There was a lot of stacking done in these homes. This style is done with several different types of molding that are put on top of each other. Trim work can be done all through a home.
Another type of look is called picture framing, and this look is achieved by trimming out a whole wall or a portion of it. You want to make squares of equal size over the wall, or you can mix them, as long as you are consistent in your pattern. This will make a small room look much larger then it really is. If you can tie it into a doorway, wall lights and outlets, you will have a very beautiful look. All corners in a room, door, or window that have been given the picture frame look should be mitered.
Trim work is very slow, but it is rewarding when you get done. The tools you use have a big part in finishing a successful job. You should have a good miter saw, router, sanding block and air nailer. These tools will make a very clean looking project.
