Kitchen Cabinets

Most kitchens are the place in the home where family will gather, neighbors will visit and share meals and memories. The kitchen should be functional.

The kitchen cabinet was invented as a built-in installation with a single counter that covered multiple cabinets. They were invented in the early 20th century. Before that time, a single piece of furniture was used for storage and work surfaces. Before World War I work table were used and a pantry was used for dry storage. "Cupboards" were used in kitchens or butler's pantries in larger homes to store dishes.

There are several types of kitchen cabinets. There are the high-end cabinets that are made of solid wood for high durability. They do not use particle board or fillers. These cabinets come ready for installation. These cabinets use heavy-duty all metal concealed hinges and may be finished with opaque paint or transparent finishes. They can be distressed or glazed and the finish can be in satin or gloss.

You will want your kitchen to have proper storage with pull out pantry and maybe a wine rack. You may even opt for doors with glass windows and glass shelves with lighting throughout the cabinet.

There are cabinets that are discount priced and can be found on sale at various locations. These cabinets are not the best made and most are made of particle board or plywood. They will not last very long. They are not custom made, but are instead referred to as "stock" cabinets. They come in various colors and styles and are affordable.
