Woodwork Trim for Doors and Floors

Woodwork trims for doors and floors come hand-in-hand. If you are looking to replace a damaged part, you may find a similar piece elsewhere in your house. It may be in the nooks and crannies of a low traffic area, closets, or other spots that may not need it. You can use two wide putty spatulas and a pry bar to slowly remove the piece. You need up to an inch out without damaging the molding. Patiently cut the nails with a slim hacksaw or just the blade alone. Should you find this a bit troublesome or unable to find a suitable replacement part in your home, the only option you have is buy a new set of trim for your doors and floors.

If you want to find a matching trim mold at your local lumber or hardware store, it is best to take the damaged part with you or take a picture of it. Chances are you may not find it if your home is very old. You can probably get it custom made but it would probably be more costly and may not be a good choice.

Painting your trims can be done quickly and look professional if you follow these tips. Make sure the wood is properly treated for cracks, sanded, and lead free if it was previously painted before 1980. Paint the woodwork piece first and start with the top to bottom. It is best to use a roller than a brush so that you won't see the brush marks on the wood piece. Always cover your finished work so that you can paint the other areas with contrasting colors to avoid splattering or cross-color painting.
