Wood Trim Finishing Touches for Your Home

Whether you are redecorating, getting your home ready to sell or designing your new home, consider adding wood trims as a finishing touch. Wood trims can be added to the home in a variety of places and not only do they enhance the beauty of your home, they add value as well. Many home buyers’ eyes are naturally attracted to trims and moldings and they make a dramatic difference in defining the style of a room.

Crown moldings for walls and cabinet tops are very popular and add a feeling of elegance. They are also the furthest away from the eye so it isn’t necessary for them to be custom made or from expensive woods. Using cheaper varieties of wood like spruce or pine with a good stain or paint will give you a rich look at minimal cost. The style of the trim should match the style of the room and are generally wider in width the higher you go toward the ceiling. This creates a natural path and vocal point for the eye to travel. Just be sure to consider the rest of the room and any existing trim when selecting the style and paint or stain color.

Wood trims and moldings can be added around windows, interior doors, arches and patio doors to change or enhance the existing style of the room. Adding a chair rail molding, wainscoting or a ceiling medallion above a light fixture can bring an air of classic elegance to a formal dining area. Also consider non-traditional areas to add trims like to accent a ceiling or frame built in book cases, entertainment centers, nooks and art niches.
