One of the most important decisions you can make about your new home is the type of trim you will use around the doors and windows. The type and style of the trim you choose helps to define the style and character of your home. Trim helps to tie all the architectural elements of the house together. In general, the same trim that is used on the doorways is also used around the windows. An exception to this would be around entry doors or large openings, such as an opening into a dinning area. These areas would have more elaborate trim around them because they are the areas that your guests will see first. This will set the mood of the home from the start.
The door trim parts include door panels, overhead trim, overhead insets, corner blocks, and overlays. The corners of the trim can either be mitered or have block inserts to match it up. The trim can be a plain traditional style or fluted. Fluted detail can add an upscale, classic look to your interior. Adding overhead pieces with beautiful woodworking like elaborate fans or oval rosettes and panels can make it appear more upscale. The corner blocks can be plain or they can have rosettes, leaves, or other detail on them.
When we look back in history, the most admired homes are the ones that have beautiful woodworking done on the trims and moldings throughout the house. Today, many homeowners are creating the same image for themselves in their new or remodeled homes.
