Are you trying to decide how to remodel your kitchen? Will you purchase your cabinets at the local hardware store or hire a contractor for a more custom-made look? Do you like wood, stainless steel, natural finishes or painted finishes?
How do you choose your perfect cabinets without going over your budget? First, decide what you want to spend. Decide if you also need to update your appliances and your flooring in your kitchen.
Basically, there are three types of cabinets: stock, semi-custom and custom-made cabinets. Stock cabinets are the least expensive and can be purchased at your local home improvement store. If you are deciding on semi-custom cabinets that are manufactured, you will have to plan ahead and wait until your order has arrived before installing your new kitchen cabinets. This version is a little more expensive, but you can order specialty drawers and other fixtures. Custom-made cabinets are exactly that. You will work with a contractor to determine exactly what you want in your kitchen; it will then be made and shipped to your door. Custom-made cabinets are the most expensive made.
Your contractor can also help you to determine what type of style to use if you have not already found one. To find ideas, simply look in one of the many home decoration magazines or take a stroll through the local home improvement store. Once you have found your style, decide which material you would want in your kitchen. Think seriously about where you are today and how your life may change in ten years. You may want a material that will add value to a home you may intend on selling in a few years.
