Considerations in Choosing Kitchen Cabinets

When choosing new kitchen cabinets, the first consideration would be your budget. In remodeling, half of your budget should be considered for cabinets.

Then you will need to decide what type of cabinets you desire. With stock cabinets, you have limited options in width sizes. On the other hand, they are the most popular sizes and finishes. They also cost less that custom cabinets. Then there are semi-custom cabinets which are made after you place your order. The top of the line and most expensive cabinets are the custom cabinets which are made especially for your kitchen. Next comes the style of cabinet you desire which consists mostly of your door design.

After style, you will need to decide if you want wood, laminate or metal cabinets. There are advantages and disadvantages to each type of material. Choose whatever meets your standards, is within your budget and believe will look best in your kitchen. With wood, you will have many choices in the type of wood you select. Then figure out if you want to stain or varnish them, paint or leave them natural. With a laminate, you will just need to decide on a color. For stainless steel, it is just a matter of all stainless or only partial stainless.

When selecting your cabinets, you will also want to check out the drawer hardware. See if the drawers fully extend and the type of rollers they are on. Also, see if they are the soft close type. You will also need to choose the hinges, door and drawer knobs.
