Any time you begin a woodworking design you want to make sure you have a project in mind. The best thing to do is go to your local book store and look for project idea books. Once you have a plan on what way you want to do, you can start your design.
The next step in designing a woodwork project is to figure the size and what kind of lumber you need to use. If you wanted to build a few shelves that you wanted to paint, you would want to get pine lumber. If you wanted a wood finish you would want to get oak or birch and clear coat or stain for it. The choices of lumber may seem overwhelming but it isn’t that bad. You can go to a home center and ask for small pieces of lumber to test the kind of finish you would like on the type of wood you will be using. Your next step is to measure the area you will be working in.
This will give an idea of how much lumber is needed. On a piece of paper write down the measurements you took and draw a sketch of what you want it to look like. Remember only you know exactly what you want. It is your vision. The final step is to put everything with the right tools. If you do not want to buy these tools you can rent them from a tool rental center. Wood working is fun and enjoyable so relax and have fun.
