Installing a kitchen cabinet can seem like a really big job to undertake on your own, but if you take your time and have a helper it is doable. You will want to install the base cabinets first. You need a few basic tools to do this job. You will need a four foot level, a power screw driver, a couple of good clamps. You will also need a drill to pre-drill the screw holes.
When installing your cabinets you will be attaching them to the wall studs. Once you locate the first stud you should be able to measure every sixteen inches to locate all the other studs. It is a good idea to set all your base cabinets where you want them to be, and then decide which one will be installed first. You may need to shim the bottom of the cabinet to get it level. Once it is level, start screwing it to the wall. Your helper can check the level and put shims as needed.
Be sure to anchor the wall cabinets to studs. You should measure and mark all of the studs for the wall cabinets. You will need to mark where you want the bottom of the cabinets to come to. Generally, eighteen to twenty inches is left between the bottom of the wall cabinets and the counter top.
After you have a level line drawn where you want the cabinets to come to, nail a 1 x 3 strip of wood along the line. This will be a ledge to rest your cabinet on until you get it attached. Use 2 1/2 inch wood screws to mount your cabinets. After you have your cabinet attached to the wall you can remove the 1/3 strip and put it where the next cabinet will go.
