When you buy a new home, you may not be satisfied with the look of the rooms. You can customize them by changing or adding wood trim. Online web sites will help you design changes to part or all of the trim. The workers at your local hardware store are also usually more than willing to help you design or add trims to your home.
Just a simple carved one inch wide trim added to the top of your baseboards will put a new face on the room. If the baseboards are only two or three inches wide, consider a seven or eight inch wide trim and adding a quarter round piece on the floor. High end home looks are easy with the same seven or eight inch board the only thing installed.
Changing every door, window, and baseboard can be done one room at a time. With a lot of designs readily available, you can buy room amounts of wood trim at any time without worrying too much about a different look going from one room to another. You can also change the color of the wood trim to match the rest of the room. Painted trim is probably easier to match when adding trims. Staining is another method of matching color, which can be tricky. Paint or stain any piece you are adding or any new wood trim before cutting and installing. Doing this speeds up the painting time, as you do not need to be on your hands and knees as long. Just touch up after installing and you have that new look you have been looking for.
