Choosing the Woodwork Design for Your Home

Most homes have quite a bit of woodwork in them, whether it is new or dated. When choosing your woodwork, you need to think about what makes you feel good about a design. Woodwork designs take time to add and there are many different kinds of wood to choose from. Woodworking in your home can be anything from baseboards, window trim to built in cabinet doors. The design of the cabinet doors can be anything from sleek, modern to carved, antique, depending on your taste. The finish is important too because too dark of a finish in a room will not work.

To make the home look complete, you should choose only one architectural style for the woodwork. Putting several styles together can cause the woodwork to look as if it doesn't belong together. Also, the stain on the wood should match. If it is painted, it should be the same color unless an accent color is used in certain areas.

The size of your trimmings and the molding should not overpower the size of the room. If it is a small room, the baseboards and crown moldings should be no more than six inches tall. If your home has high ceilings, you may want to use wider baseboards. Also, the crown moldings can be larger. You want to be sure all the woodwork goes well together and does not look out of place. If your cabinet doors are extra large because of a high ceiling, the hardware needs to be in proportion to the size of the door.
