Simple Woodwork Design

Here is a woodwork design for building a picnic table, measuring 28 inches wide and 8 feet long.

First, you will need to buy some wood - 12 pieces of 2 feet. x 4 feet x 8 feet; 4 pieces of 2 feet x 6 feet x 8 feet; and 2 pieces of 2 feet x 10 feet. x 8 feet. You also need 1 box of 2 pound box nails (16d galvanized twist); and 16 of 3 inches x 3/8 inch carriage bolts and washer and nuts for each of them. Tools needed for this project are tape measurement, hammer, saw, and drill (3/8” bit and 3/4” spade bit).

For the table top- first, take one of the 2 feet x 4 feet, and cut it into three pieces measuring 26 inches each (to be used for the cross boards). Next, nail the eight top board to the three cross board (leave one inch overhang on each side of the corners).

For table legs- first, cut the four legs into equal length from two of the 2 feet x 6 feet. Make sure to cut at a 60 degree angle at both the top and bottom on each side of the leg. Next, cut the two remaining 2 feet x 6 feet, to 5 feet pieces (to use for seat stretchers).

Now, put your project together. First, flip the top of the table upside down and mount the four legs to the outer cross boards (with legs inside of the boards at 3 1/2 inches from the outside of the table top). Next, drill and bolt the legs to the boards (use 2 bolts per leg). Then, attach the seat stretchers (make sure that the seat will sit on them and measure 17 inches from the ground).
