Wood trim is one of the most beautiful looking trims for your house. The shades of color can be done to match the rest of your house. If a person likes a light color, they could use a shade of white or ivory. If one prefers a darker color, a brown would be a great choice. There are many shades in either choice, and therefore there is a color for any house.

Someone with small children might prefer the darker colors, since the light ones show so many stains and scuff marks. It can be a hard decision to make because once done, it has to be lived with until the time for another trim painting.

There is a lot of work that goes into using wood trim on doors and floors. It is well worth the time in the end; the wood is so beautiful. The wood has to be prepared. For this, it must be sanded and de-glossed, then washed with a detergent. The paint will not stick on the wood if there is dirt, grease, or any other foreign particles. The door knobs and latches have to be covered to prevent getting paint on them as you are painting the trim.

When using wood trim, it can be painted after it is installed or it can be painted before installation. It is easier if done before, but if the trim is just being re-finished, it is fine to do it when it is already up. Be sure to use a primer first so that the paint will stick better and last longer.
