Woodwork Design - Beyond the Beginner

Advanced wood working skills are taught in wood working classes. Safety is a requirement in almost any work place. Work shop safety tips are also taught in wood working classes. Hearing protection may be necessary for noisy routers. Latex gloves may be worn when applying finishes. Safety glasses are important in the workshop: Safety glasses shield the eyes from splatters, and debris. Clothing is also beneficial for safety. Avoid wearing loose clothing to reduce the chance of any clothing getting entangled in equipment. Remove dangling jewelry such as necklaces, or bracelets.

An advanced woodworker has the know how to build many objects. Things such as paper towel holders, coat racks, and entertainment centers. A piece of wood becomes a decorative, or a furniture piece. By following the guidelines, each detail is masterfully done producing the results of an artfully finished product. Sharp, smooth, rounded, and angled; perfectly shaped in all of its places.

Some advanced woodworking classes require learning to use industrial power tools as part of the curriculum. Tools such as lathes and routers are used to do large projects. A lathe holds a piece of wood in place and cuts, or shapes it. A router is a machine, or tool used to cut into wood, or below the surface of the wood. Grinders and sanders are commonly used in advanced wood working. Grinders are used to wear, smooth, or sharpen wood by abrasion, or friction. Sanders are used to sand wood to give it a smooth surface. An advanced wood worker produces fine wood products.
