Choosing Woodwork For Your Home

Woodworking can easily enhance the beauty of your home. It's not always easy to choose the right type of woodwork for you homes design. Here are some simple tips to start you on the right path.

The very first thing you must do is make a plan and get an idea for the part of your home you are trying to enhance. You have to decide if it will be molding, cabinets, floors or something else. By doing this you will then know what type of hardness you will need. You must decide if you want the wood to resist dents or if you are looking for a specific type of look. Oak, ash and cherry are known to be some of the hardest woods and is better at resisting dents. Pine and fir are known as the softer woods. Remember that no wood can resist all dents. After making your wood choice, you need to decide how you want the finished product to look. There are two types you are able to buy. Unfinished woods are easy to stain to help match the look of your existing woodwork. The staining is an extra step but will help with the overall effect. Finished wood is already factory stained. Finished wood usually comes with a warranty.

After selecting the type of hardness and finished look, you must select your wood grade. The different types of grade are rustic, natural and select. Rustic grade will show more knots. Select grade will show the least imperfections. You might also want to think about the wood grain. There are again three options. Closed grain is smooth while open grains are rougher. The best grain to stain is open wood.
