Woodwork Design in Your Home

With a bit of imagination and creativity, you can transform your home from ordinary to extraordinary! By taking the time to examine some areas around your home, finding something you would like to highlight, and then applying a bit of know-how, you can transform the look of a room or even your entire home.

For the past several years, most new construction has favored a more contemporary design with little or no woodwork. These simple homes are just asking for trims and moldings around doors and windows, or crown moldings around the ceilings. The really creative parts come in when you add a special touch like a nice chair rail, or use a picture frame molding to highlight an area on a large wall. By staining or painting the molding a contrasting color, you can create a whole new look to your room.

If you have a fireplace, you can add a nice wood mantel, or go the whole nine yards with decorative moldings around the entire fireplace and mantel. Another great accent is to build a decorative bookcase, or an area for firewood next to the fireplace, trimmed in a molding to match.

You can also create some great shelving in tight places by opening a wall area, using the current studs as the base work, add shelves in between the studs, and then face the front of your new built-in creation with a decorative molding.

Using decorative moldings and woodwork designs can truly add an entirely new face to your home. It does take a bit of effort and a little more budget, but your home will be much richer for it!
