Woodworking

Woodworking is a constructive process of sculpturing wood. Woodwork has been practiced for ages, from the advent of primitive human beings. The Egyptians and Chinese were the two ancient civilizations that used woodworking. In the modern world, woodworking is a hobby or profession for many. Three basic types of woods are hardwoods, softwoods, and man-made materials such as plywood and MDF.

Woodworking can be practiced as a fun pastime and activity at home. At the same time, it can be a dangerous experience if not performed properly. Fencing the house and garden using wood is an exciting exercise. It adds to the beauty of the house and also prevents intruders from invading the property. Other woodworking projects include furniture, cabinetry, or something more modest, such as birdhouses, woodcarving, picture frames, toys, pen-making, or scrollsawing. Woodworking promotes opportunity for work from home and earns some income.

The tools needed for woodworking can be purchased at hardware and department stores. These can be either power tools or hand tools. Using power tools will cause loud noise, dust, fumes, and unsightly piles of waste materials lying around. This can create tensions in a neighborhood and potential legal liability. Power tools can cause serious injury if misused. Hand tools can cause equivalently hazardous injuries but are less noisy and dust free. Woodworking carries inherent risks; hence, appropriate safety measures and precautions have to be followed. Good maintenance is needed for the tools all the time. Make oneself familiar with the structure and operation of the tool by reading user manuals. A respirator, ear plugs, and safety goggles are important items while doing any woodworking operations.
