Trimming Your Home With Woodwork

It is absolutely amazing how you can transform the look of a room, or your entire home, with the use of woodwork trims. The best part is that you can choose to do it all yourself for a lot less money, just by using your own creativity.

For example, you can make any room look much more finished by adding baseboards and molding around the ceiling. However, if you really want an elegant look, you can use the wide baseboard moldings and create a crown molding around the top instead of just one small molding by itself. To create the more elegant moldings you can start with a plain 4 or 6 inch board, then add one or two layers of narrower moldings on top. Depending on your decor, you will need to decide whether paint or wood stain would showcase your new creation better.

You can easily add just a flat board around your windows, or use different types of moldings. When using the flat boards, you may choose to add special designed corner pieces to enhance the look of your windows; especially if the woodwork is going to show. Woodwork trims also works great around fireplaces; especially when designing mantles, or even to trim out an existing bookcase.

Most all of the do-it-yourself stores carry a wide variety of moldings in several styles and sizes, as well as decorative pieces for corners or brackets. Whatever you choose, you can be sure your home will be greatly enhanced by adding the touch of woodwork.
