Woodwork Accents for the Moden Home

In days gone by, the use of wood in the decor of the home was a given. Tables, doors, logs for the structure itself, flooring and staircases were all made of wood and to consider them an accent to the home decor would not be accurate. Wrought iron or stained glass used at that time would be considered an accent. Today, most homes are walled with sheet rock, paint and synthetic coverings, or natural wall coverings of printed paper. The use of wood accents is making a comeback.

Consider the focal areas of any given room and think of what style of wood furniture or antique wooden accents would make the room elegant and warm. The fireplace in a family room appears stark when large faux rocks cover the wall and the hearth is made of brick. Consider an ornate mantle made of oak that is massive in comparison to the opening of the fireplace, and now you have an accent of woodwork in the room giving an appearance of warmth, even when there is no flame in the fireplace.

Replace the wrought iron railing on the staircase with one made of tooled spindles held in perfect spacing by a hand rail of smooth, polished Black Walnut, and you have a striking accent to this grand amenity of your home. Complete the staircase with steps made of polished cherry and then covered partially with a complimentary colored carpet and your stairway is as elegant as any in Buckingham Palace.
