Woodwork for Doors and Floors

Before you install the flooring, whether vinyl or wood, you need to remove the existing trim. Then you can re-use the trim after the floor is completed. Installing floor trim, whether you re-install the former trim or choose a new look, after you’ve laid the flooring, not only keeps it in place, but adds a finished look to the job. Flooring edges naturally tend to curl and pull away from the wall, unless they have been properly finished with trim. Trim is critical for the long life of your floor, and choosing a complementary trim for your flooring project will save you headaches, money, and give you the best looking floor possible.

There are three basic options for floor trim installation. You can remove and reinstall your current trim. You can install new floor trim to increase the beauty of your floor. You can, alternately, choose to install quarter-round trim. This may last longer than reusing your old trim, but shouldn’t cost as much as full new trim installation. Every homeowner has different requirements and preferences for the area where the flooring is being installed. A contractor can advise you about the price differences for each option.

Decorative trim may be more costly, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be functional while adding increased beauty to your floors and door frames. Floor trim comes in a multitude of textures and colors, including a number of wood or wood grain finishes. When you are installing your trim, it is the ideal time to consider installing wainscoting. This provides similar elegance to hardwood flooring for significantly less expense. Using the same or a complementary trim on the door frame gives your room a truly completed look. Your supplier will help you choose those trims which will look best together.
