Woodwork Trim Around Floors And Doors

Nothing makes a house look more homey or comfortable than natural woodwork trim around the floors and doors. Even though there are so many mock-up moldings and frame work available at your do-it-yourself centers, none of them look as good or last as long.

There are many different materials, finishes and colors available in the new trims. The fact is that most of these have to be glued on and after a while they start to pull away and never seem to stick back the same way. As well, they don't look natural either. Painting over these plastic or rubber trims is almost impossible as the paint soon peels away. Painting over wood to change the color scheme of your room is much easier and lasts longer. If you want to change again, you just need to paint over or you can strip the paint and use a different color.

Wood frames, doors and moldings around your floors last longer, look more natural, and if done right, actually bring the value of your house up. There are many types of wood to choose from, but you should go through the house first to see what has already been used on the floors and other trim. You will want to find the same kind that the original house had if at all possible.

You can find many beautiful varieties of wood to use for your moldings, floor edgings and doorways. You can choose from maple, red cherry, poplar, red oak, white oak, mahogany, pine and Spanish cedar. You can also buy raw wood and put your own coating or sealant on or you can buy wood already treated and that is cut and pre-formed.
